Privacy Policy

Who we are
This website is Citewise.net. If you have questions about this policy, contact us via the contact form.
What data we collect and why
1. Analytics
This site uses Cloudflare Web Analytics to understand how pages are performing. Cloudflare Web Analytics does not use cookies, does not collect personal data, and does not track individual visitors across sites or sessions. Data is aggregated and anonymous.
No opt-out or cookie consent is required for analytics on this site.
2. Advertising
This site uses Google AdSense to display advertisements. Google AdSense uses cookies — including the DoubleClick cookie — to serve ads based on your prior visits to this site and other sites across the web.
Google’s use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads based on your visit to Citewise.net and/or other websites. You can opt out of personalised advertising by visiting Google’s Ads Settings or www.aboutads.info.
For more information on how Google collects and uses data, see Google’s Privacy & Terms.
3. Email subscription
If you subscribe to our email list, we collect your email address via EmailOctopus. Your email address is stored and processed by EmailOctopus in accordance with EmailOctopus’s Privacy Policy. We use your email address to send content updates and, where you have opted in, promotional emails. You can unsubscribe at any time using the link at the bottom of any email.
We do not sell or share your email address with third parties outside of EmailOctopus.
4. Contact form
If you use the contact form, your name, email address, subject, and message are collected solely to respond to your enquiry. This data is not used for marketing unless you separately subscribe to our email list.
5. Server logs and security
This site is hosted on, and delivered through, the Cloudflare network. As part of providing hosting, content delivery, and protection against malicious traffic, Cloudflare automatically processes certain technical information — including your IP address, browser type, and request data — in temporary server logs. The contact form is processed by a Cloudflare Worker, which likewise handles your IP address as part of delivering and securing that request. This processing is necessary to operate the site securely and is not used to identify or profile individual visitors. For details, see Cloudflare’s Privacy Policy.
Cookies
Cloudflare Web Analytics does not use cookies. The contact form does not set cookies. EmailOctopus may set cookies if you interact with subscription forms. Google AdSense sets cookies (including the DoubleClick cookie) to serve personalised ads — see the Advertising section above for opt-out options. You can also control or block cookies through your browser settings.
Cookie consent for EEA, UK, and Switzerland visitors
For visitors in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, and Switzerland, Google AdSense manages cookie consent on our behalf through its integrated Consent Management Platform, which complies with Google’s EU User Consent Policy and the IAB Transparency and Consent Framework (TCF v2.2). When you visit this site from those regions, you will be presented with a consent prompt before any advertising cookies are set. If you decline consent for personalised advertising, Google may still serve non-personalised ads, which use a cookie for purposes such as frequency capping and fraud prevention but do not build an advertising profile based on your browsing history. We do not set any advertising or tracking cookies independently of Google AdSense.
Children’s privacy (COPPA)
This site is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, please contact us via the contact form and we will delete it promptly.
Your rights (UK & EU visitors)
Under UK GDPR and EU GDPR, you have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you
- Request correction of inaccurate data
- Request deletion of your data
- Object to processing of your data
- Withdraw consent at any time where processing is based on consent
To exercise any of these rights, contact us via the contact form.
Legal basis for processing
We process personal data on the following legal bases:
| Data | Legal basis |
|---|---|
| Analytics (Cloudflare Web Analytics) | Legitimate interests — understanding site performance using cookieless, anonymous data that does not identify individuals |
| Advertising cookies (Google AdSense) | Consent — obtained via Google’s consent prompt for EEA/UK/Switzerland visitors; for other regions, opt-out is available via Google’s Ads Settings |
| Email subscription | Consent — you provide your email address voluntarily and may withdraw consent by unsubscribing at any time |
| Contact form submissions | Legitimate interests — responding to enquiries you have initiated |
| Server logs (Cloudflare) | Legitimate interests — operating, delivering, and securing the website |
International data transfers
EmailOctopus is headquartered in the United Kingdom. Google LLC is headquartered in the United States. When data is transferred outside the UK or EEA, it is protected by appropriate safeguards including Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs) approved by the relevant supervisory authorities, or adequacy decisions where applicable. For details of Google’s data transfer mechanisms, see Google’s Privacy & Terms. For EmailOctopus, see EmailOctopus’s Privacy Policy.
Canadian residents (PIPEDA / Quebec Law 25)
This site is accessible to visitors from Canada and we handle any personal data collected from Canadian residents in accordance with Canada’s Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and, where applicable, Quebec’s Act Respecting the Protection of Personal Information in the Private Sector (Law 25).
The person responsible for privacy compliance at Citewise is Dave Felton, contactable via the contact form.
Personal data is collected only for the purposes described in this policy — analytics, email subscriptions, and contact form responses — and only to the extent necessary for those purposes. You may withdraw consent at any time by unsubscribing from emails or contacting us to request deletion of your data.
In the event of a privacy breach that poses a real risk of significant harm, we will notify affected individuals and, where required, the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.
Quebec residents have additional rights under Law 25, including the right to data portability (receiving your data in a structured, commonly used format) and the right to erasure (requesting that your personal information be deleted). To exercise either right, contact us via the contact form.
US residents — state privacy laws
California (CCPA / CPRA)
If you are a California resident, you have the right to know what personal information we collect about you, to request deletion of that information, and to opt out of the sale or sharing of your personal information. We do not sell or share personal information. The personal data we collect is limited to email addresses (where you subscribe) and contact form submissions — both described above. To exercise your rights under the CCPA/CPRA, contact us via the contact form. You can opt out of the sharing of your personal information for cross-context behavioural advertising at any time via Your Privacy Choices.
Other US states
Residents of Indiana, Kentucky, Rhode Island, and other US states with comprehensive privacy laws have similar rights to access, correct, delete, and opt out of the sale of their personal data. We do not sell personal data. To exercise any of these rights, contact us via the contact form. US residents can also opt out of personalised advertising via Your Privacy Choices, and we honour Global Privacy Control signals automatically.
Data retention
Contact form submissions are retained for up to 90 days. Email subscriber data is retained until you unsubscribe.

This site may contain links to external websites. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of those sites.
